Baby chicks
Day-old to three-week-old birds need a brooder, steady heat, clean water, and starter feed. They're adorable and rewarding, but they aren't "set and forget." Plan the setup before pickup.
Pullets and layers
Pullets (roughly 8-16 weeks) are growing into adult plumage and need less heat but still careful housing. Production layers are mature hens already in their laying years, the fastest path to eggs if your coop is ready.
